India is the safest country for minorities in the world. To understand this, one has to take into account the condition of minorities in other countries, said Vice-Chairman of the National Council for Minorities George Kurian.
According to Kurian, no one would say the condition of minorities in neighbouring countries such as China, Pakistan, Myanmar, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh is better than that of India. Some may argue that in Western countries the situation is better. In the US, the President has said people from five countries are banned from entering that country because they belong to a particular religion. Similarly, the President of US takes the oath of office by placing the hand over the Holy Bible. “But in India, we cannot think of such a situation. People won’t accept that,” he said. In the UK, King or Queen appoints Bishops, he observed.
“Therefore, whichever way we look at it, India is the safest country for minorities,” said Kurian.
