Former Gujarat DGP RB Sreekumar is a poster-boy of Left-liberal human rights outfits. As more skeletons from the cupboard tumble out, the real face of this monster cop is getting exposed. According to a report in Times of India, Mariam Rasheeda, the Maldivian who was arrested in connection with the fabricated ISRO spy case, has said Sreekumar, then an IB joint director, had tortured her in custody. “When I refused to identify men who I didn’t know, he lifted a chair and hit on my leg,” Rasheeda claimed.
“The interrogators showed me photographs of two men and asked me if I knew them. When I said ‘no’, they asked me to identify them as ISRO scientist Nambi Narayanan and inspector general Raman Srivastava. When I refused to identify these men who I didn’t know, one officer lifted a chair and hit me on my left leg. Twenty-four years later, a few days ago, I saw the same officer on television, participating in a 2013 debate on the ISRO spy case and I identified him as Sreekumar,” Rasheeda told TOI.
Sreekumar said he did interrogate the woman but did not use any force. Like politicians, he is playing the victim card. He said the BJP was behind the allegation, as it wanted to settle scores for framing Narendra Modi in Gujarat riot case. Dismissing Rasheeda’s allegation, Sreekumar said, “If I tortured her, why didn’t she tell the court that?”
To this Rasheeda said the court did not ask her anything. She was merely produced in courts and did not understand what was happening. “I was always surrounded by policemen. Even when I had a lawyer, I couldn’t talk to him. Also, I didn’t know the identity of the officers who tortured me. Now I know, after watching the re-telecast of the recorded programme, that the officer who hit me with a chair is Sreekumar,” she told TOI.
The Supreme Court had ordered a committee headed by a retired judge to look into the conspiracy in the ISRO spy case in which some corrupt police officers, politicians and US spy agency CIA conspired to sabotage India’s cryogenic programme.
