Dealing a major blow to Pinarayi Vijayan-led government in Kerala Devaswom ministers of South Indian states did not turn up to discuss the preparations ahead of the Mandala season in the Sabarimala hill shrine. The attained importance as the issue of entry of young women to Sabarimala is a hot topic. They sent only government officers for the meet.
The entry of young women violating the centuries old tradition in Sabarimala is seen unfavourably by people across South India where the Ayyappa cult holds sway. All other states, except the Marxist-ruled Kerala, have put their weight behind devotees who have been protesting against the decision.
The Chief Minister Vijayan decided to give the meeting a miss as the ministers did not turn up. Kerala Devaswom minister Kadakampalli Surendran chaired the meeting.
