A few months ago, the Marxists in Kerala organized a Women’s Wall across the state to celebrate women empowerment and ‘renaissance values’. (But the real reason for organizing the event was to counter the mounting women protests against LDF government’s decision to violate traditions in Sabarimala.)
When it comes to violation of women rights, comrades are on the forefront, if the statement of women Congress leader Bindu Krishna is to be believed. Krishna, in a TV channel discussion, listed out molestation-rape cases involving CPI(M) leaders and cadres.
Kerala State Human Rights Commission has registered a case in this regard.
The latest incident relates to the suicide attempt by a girl student of University College, Thiruvananthapuram, recently. Unable to bear the constant harassment and torture, the first-year BSc Chemistry student cut her veins. When she did not return home on May 3, her parents filed a police complaint. The police who searched her room found her lying in a pool of blood.
In a suicide note, the girl narrated the harassment and torture she had to face from the comrades.
Meanwhile, Kerala State Human Rights Commission has registered a case in this regard. KT Jaleel, the minister for Higher Education, has asked the Director of his department to carry out a probe and file a report.
In a bid to protect SFI goons, the police filed a complaint against the victim for “suicide attempt”. There are allegations that the steps of both the minister as well as the police are for saving the SFI goons.
The girl has stated in the letter that she had many dreams when she joined the University College. She passed her Plus 2 examinations with high scores, despite she was partially visually challenged. But, her bitter experiences in the college had shattered all her dreams. “Students are treated as slaves by SFI leaders,” she writes. She was not even allowed to have food before her semester examinations. SFI workers, led by her classmates Adityachandran and Atulya, threatened her.
The note further says both of them are responsible for her miserable condition. Jishnu and Prince phoned her several times to threaten her. They would not permit her to appear for the examinations if she did not go and meet them.
The girl who suffered low blood pressure had to go to the examination hall without food. As a result, she could not perform well in the examinations. “Even during the menstrual period I was forced to walk in the sun as part of the SFI agitations,” she further writes. Her requests for leaving her alone fell on deaf ears. When she set out to leave, they abused her physically and caught hold of her to stop.
Even though she complained to the principal, he did not take any action. She liked to go home on the eve of the physics examination since there was no class on that day; but they forcefully took her to participate in the SFI march. Consequently, she could not study well hence could not appear for the examination.
Cursing her tormentors, she writes: “All of you will suffer like anything for messing up my life. You will land in hell and die. Your younger sisters will commit suicide like this. My spirit will not forgive you. What wrong did I do to you Aditya, you will suffer, mind it.”
Meanwhile, the girl told in her statement before the magistrate that she does not like to go ahead with the case. She wrote the letter as she was under depression. But she did not withdraw her allegations.
The SFI doesn’t allow any other organisation to function on the campus. A former woman principal of the college said the SFI runs a “torture chamber” on the campus. Some time ago, a student was bashed up for tying a ‘rakhi’ on his hand.
