Several BJP workers, including women, were injured when the police resorted to lathicharge on Wednesday at Thiruvananthapuram, where they were protesting against police action.
The workers were protesting against the government’s insensitive attitude towards the demands of Hindu devotees who were demanding removal of restrictions in Sabarimala imposed by the police.
Senior BJP leader AN Radhakrishnan, who was on a hunger strike which entered the eighth day, was arrested. They also demanded departmental action against the police personnel who attacked the BJP workers and fired water cannon against them while they were protesting in front of Cliff House, the official residence of CM Pinarayi Vijayan, on December 9. In the latest episode, police shot water cannon and resorted to lathi charge against the BJP protesters.
Radhakrishnan was shifted to a city hospital after his health deteriorated. Immediately after the arrest of Radhakrishnan, former BJP state president and senior leader CK Padmanabhan started hunger strike with the same demand Radhakrishnan had put forward.
