Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) Sarsanghchalak Mohan Bhagwat claimed that his organisation is the most democratic organisation in the world. Dispelling the misconception among a section of the people and media, Bhagwat said, “the misconception is because, people tend to look it from outside. All decisions in the Sangh are taken in consultation. Nothing is dictated from the top. The Sangh’s focus is only on man-making.” The Sarsaghchalak was addressing a gathering of prominent intellectuals and eminent personalities on the first day of the three-day lecture series on the topic of “Future of Bharat: An RSS Vision” at Vigyan Bhavan in New Delhi.
The Sarsanghchalak also said the Sangh doesn’t believe in its domination. “It endeavors to strengthen and enable the society to take the nation forward. If a situation arises when the Sangh is fully dominating, I think, it would portend the departure of the Sangh from its ideals,” Bhagwat said. In this context he said the Sangh’s only mandate is vyakti nirman (man-making mission).
He said there is a general impression that the RSS is a dictatorial organisation. “Every swayamsevak has the right to question, share his thoughts. There is a system in the Sangh to take such thoughts to the Pratinidhi Sabha, the highest decision-making body of the Sangh,” he said.
He said it is the Hindutva or Hinduness that is the driving force of this civilization. When we departed from these cultural values, we became weak. Hindutva is not exclusive but inclusive. Bhagwat remembered the contribution of the Congress and other organisations in the development of the country.
The Sarsanghchalak said the Sangh doesn’t accept donations from any organisation. “It is a self-sustaining organisation that runs from the funds raised through gurudakshina. In the Sangh, we consider Bhagwat Dhwaj (saffron flag) as the ‘guru’ and the swayamsevaks donate gurudakshina which is used for Sangh’s activities,” he said. In this context, he said “there are several social service activities carried out by swayamsevaks. These organisations that work according to the laws of the land accept money for their operations though,” he added.
Among the prominent personalities who attended the function included Metro Man E Sreedharan, Manisha Koirala, Anu Malik, Chetan Chouhan, Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Subramanian Swamy, Dr Harsh Vardhan, Alphons Kannamthanam and others.
