Lok Sabha MP Prof Richard Hay has asked the state government to withdraw all the anti-pilgrim orders and provide better facilities to the pilgrims who come from various parts of the country to Sabarimala.
Prof Hay came down heavily on Pinarayi Vijayan-led government for deploying “deploying huge police force to give protection to some activists with questionable character who tried to enter the holy place by violating the old traditions”, while genuine devotees are neglected and harassed by the police.
He said the government’s action “challenges the faith of millions of devotees who come to worship in this most renowned Hindu temple in the world.”
According to him, the temple symbolises great qualities like tolerance and inclusiveness. “The whole country has joined in the protest against the Kerala government. The arrest of the General Secretary of BJP K Surendran and others without any rhyme or reason is anti-democratic and highly objectionable,” he added.
Criticizing the lackadaisical attitude of the Travancore Devaswom Board, he said the Board has failed to provide the basic facilities at Sabarimala. “On top of it, the Kerala Govt has been using police to create more inconvenience to the pilgrims without any rhyme or reason. It’s high time that the Govt withdraws all the anti-pilgrim orders and provide better facilities to the pilgrims who come from various parts of the country,” he added.
