The Kerala Police has distributed instructions to devotees visiting Sabarimala which violate the fundamental rights of a citizen. It reads:
1) Devotees should not chant ‘Swamiye Saranam Ayyappa’ — the usual practice of Ayyappa devotees.
2) Devotees should not talk to the media.
3) Devotees should come back from Nilakkal within six hours (which is not possible unless you are an athlete).
4) They should not move together and pray together
The police took several devotees into custody and seized their mobile phones. And, BJP leaders and MPs Nalin Kumar Kattil and V. Muraleedharan went to the police station and spoke to DG of Police and DSP-in-charge and got assurance that they would inquire into the circumstances that led to the arrests.
Meanwhile, the police arrested people based on the list provided by local CPI(M) and DYFI men. They have already arrested some devotees who participated in the nama japa yatra immediately after 69 devotees were arrested from Sannidhanam, the first ever incident in the history of the shrine, on November 18 night.
