Upset over the decision of the Supreme Court to entertain a petition seeking entry of Muslim women in all mosques, the head of a prominent Muslim sect, Samastha Kerala Jamayyathul general secretary Prof K Alikutty on Tuesday said women should pray from home only and not from mosques.
Alikutty hoped that the apex court will rule in favour of traditions. According to him, the court should not interfere in the matters of faith and it should be left to the believers. Even during the British rule, communities were allowed to practice their personal laws.
Meanwhile, the CPI(M) which had viciously run a campaign to facilitate entry of young women into Sabarimala much to the chagrin of lakhs of devotees are silent on the need for ‘renaissance values’ for Muslims. It is interesting to note that those who brought in Muslim women clad in full-body veil for the Renaissance Wall organised by the CPI(M) have totally ignored the issue.
