The family of former Prant Sanghchalak of Kerala late Prof M K Govindan Nair has cut short the death anniversary function on September 9 and contributed the money earmarked for the expenses to the Sewa Bharati for flood relief activities. Smt G Sumathy Amma, the wife of late Nair, handed over a cheque worth Rs 1.5 lakh to senior RSS pracharak S Sethumadhavan. The function was attended by senior Sangh functionaries including R Mohanan and Advocate PK Ramachandran.
Speaking at the function, Shri Sethumadhavan said that late Govindan Nair had led a life based on ideals of the Sangh till his last breath and his life continues to be an inspiration for generations of Sangh workers. He was always committed to the cause of Sangh. Although he joined the Sangh at an advanced stage he worked with enthusiasm of a young swayamsevak. “During Emergency he could have written an apology and escaped imprisonment. Nobody would have raised any objection as he had a family to support with four children. But he never budged and served 19 months in the prison under MISA (Maintenance of Internal Security Act),” said Sethumadhavan.
According to the senior pracharak, Govindan Nair never showed any uneasiness. With his wit and jovial nature, he enlivened the prison atmosphere. Through his work and dedication he could attract many people towards the Sangh.
Sethumadhavan said Nair instilled the same ideals in his family and that was why they decided to do away with all functions and decided to spend that amount to the benefit of people suffering from flood fury. Sethumadhavan said Govindan Nair’s family was a ‘total Sangh family’ and his children were also active in the Sangh work. His elder daughter Dr S Remadevi was Prant Karyavahika of Rashtra Sevika Samiti and younger daughter was Vibhag Karyavahika of the Samiti.
On the occasion, financial contributions were also made to Vivekananda Balashram, where Govindan Nair was the chief patron. Vibhag Sanghchalak R Mohanan, Advocate Ramachandran, Prof Konni Gopakumar spoke on the occasion. Indus Scrolls along with Prof MK Govindan Nair Foundation organised the remembrance event.
