Yesterday for the first time I saw the Hindi film, Bajirao Mastani. It was supposed to be a blockbuster film and done crores of business. But I was aghast at the storyline of the film – it had nothing to do with the valour or the success of the Peshwa or even about his ‘love’. It was purely a film based completely on Victimization. Throughout the film, one is made to feel that the entire Peshwa family is victimizing Mastani only because she is a Muslim. And the person who must have suffered the most from having to share her husband, Kashibai, is hardly shown as the actual victim.
But this is exactly how the world is functioning today – maybe it was in the past too, but it is ‘in your face’ now. The actual victim suffers stoically in total silence and in the background while the one who is actually perpetrating the crime is ‘crying victim’ all over the Social Media and TV channels. Don’t believe me? Ask Vikas Sachdeva who the real victim was – while he is still not exonerated from the case, the one who screamed “Molestation” – Zaira Wasim, is free of all tension. Or ask Sarvjeet Singh Bedi of New Delhi. A former Times Now employee, who claims to have put out the story on the alleged molestation of St Stephen’s student Jasleen Kaur, has now apologised (in a personal capacity) to the accused, Sarvjeet Singh Bedi, saying he is “ashamed” and “regrets” the episode. But even after 3 years Sarvjeet Singh has to go to court to face trial, while the one who cried “Molestation” does not even deem it fit to attend court.
Look at cow vigilantism – the real victims are the villagers who have lost their source of livelihood when the cattle-thieves steal their cows, bulls, calves or buffaloes. The real victims are the cattle who lose their life itself. But who is crowned as a criminal? The Gou-Rakshak. And the victim award goes to the cattle thieves. Slow claps please!
And another round of applause for best acting must go to the Churches & Masjids. One Church window broken, one Masjid stopped from blaring the Azaans from the loudspeakers, and they all cry “Victim of Saffron terrorism” – but the temples which have been razed, looted in the past and in the present (via State Governments) keep quiet. Ram Lalla in the tent is not the victim, but lakhs of Muslims who prevent the temple from being built in His birthplace are ‘victims’.
Hindu refugees from Pakistan and Bangladesh, displaced Kashmiris must wait for their turn to get Government jobs or any kind of help. But, yes, the real ‘victims’ are the illegal Bangladeshi immigrants and the Rohingyas. Every Politician worth his vote, cries for the Human Rights of these ‘victims’ and rushes to offer help. Sob, sob.
And you must read Malayalam newspapers. A very respected Bishop is the latest ‘Victim’ to a malicious slander campaign by those with an ‘agenda’ to spoil the name of the Church. A soft-spoken Nun and 4 more are running this vicious campaign, because the Nun was raped by this Bishop on numerous occasions and all evidences point to the misdemeanor. Definitely the Bishop is the Victim.
And latest in the series of Victims are also those who will never in their lifetime know what exactly Sec. 377 was and will not even be affected by its removal. But they will call anyone who says that “putting deviant behavior in the limelight might destroy the family system”, homophobic and worse names. Their ‘soul’ is hurt when one does not understand the ‘pain’ of the LGBT crowd.
And how can one forget our Kashmiri stone pelters, terrorists and separatists? They all are Victims of the noblest kind – sons of headmasters, students and those ‘terrorized’ by the Armed forces. Those they throw stones and hand grenades on, are the real perpetrators of violence.
My personal favourites are those who are victims of Social Media. The ‘tukde tukde’ gang, the fake factory journalists, the abusive humourists – all are victims of a troll army of the Saffron and Nationalist kind on Twitter and Facebook.
Not to forget, the Judiciary has the permanent ability to grant anyone a certificate of ‘Victimized person’ by flouting all waiting lists, pending cases, etc. to grant a midnight hearing, stay orders, travel permissions, house ‘arrests’, fines and more. And you dare not question them!
Yes, one can add to the crowd of victims, those who battle addiction of any kind, pedophiles, grossly overweight people (only those who can’t stop eating and can’t start exercising), rapists and murderers and all – they all are what they are because of their circumstances. Those who are affected by these noble souls are the ones creating those horrid circumstances, right?
Poor Aamir Khan – only he could not get away by crying ‘victim’ … I wonder why?
Guru Gobind Singhji, Rana Pratap, Prithviraj Chauhan, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, Lachit Borphukan and all our great heroes never flaunted themselves as Victims – they fought from a point of Viveka that they were doing the right thing. In fact, when Arjuna tries to talk like a Victim, Sri Krishna brings him out of that mental status and makes him realize his status as a Dhanurdhar – that is why we have the Shloka
यत्र योगेश्वर: कृष्णो यत्र पार्थो धनुर्धर: |
तत्र श्रीर्विजयो भूतिध्रुवा नीतिर्मतिर्मम || 78||
yatra yogeśhvaraḥ kṛiṣhṇo yatra pārtho dhanur-dharaḥ
tatra śhrīr vijayo bhūtir dhruvā nītir matir mama
So in my opinion, we should strongly believe within that we are fighting for what is right, and that we will have victory. False pretense of victimisation will only rob us of our Dignity. Be brave, be aware.
