Kanaka Durga, one of the two women who entered Sabarimala, has become a liability for the ultra-Left colleagues, who till this day were celebrating her feat. Upset over her action, her family members, staunch devotees of Lord Ayyappa, have disowned her and are not ready to admit her in their house.
The Perinthalmanna police tried to mediate between Kanaka Durga and her husband but in vain. Her brother has, in a public meeting in Thiruvananthapuram, said he will not accept her until she seeks forgiveness from the Hindu community and Ayyappa devotees for trampling upon their faith. The police admitted her in the temporary shelter Sakhi One-Stop in Perinthalmanna in Malappuram district.
Last week, she along with some CPI(M) cadre tried to barge into her husband’s house when he was away. She allegedly attacked her mother-in-law Sumathy Amma who prevented from entering the house. However, the media, especially the English and pro-Left media blamed 75-year-old frail Sumathy Amma for the ruckus. Her brother Bharat Bhushan said this was a deliberate ploy of the CPI(M) and Kanaka Durga to earn sympathy and make up a case for them in the Supreme Court. Bhushan sought forgiveness from Ayyappa devotees and saints for his sister’s ‘shameful act’.
After the initial euphoria, CPI(M) cadre are also not enthusiastic about taking her to their homes or providing an alternative stay for her.
