The Christian film director says CPI(M) is scared of money power and vote bank clout of the Church
The CPI(M)-led Left Democratic Front (LDF) has given a long rope to ‘rapist’ Bishop Franco Mulakkal. “The CPI(M) and the so-called revolutionaries of the Left have bowed before the might of the powerful Christian clergy. The police is helping rapist to get anticipatory. The two richest organisations in the state are CPI(M) and the Church. CPI(M) is scared to arrest Franco because of the Church’s financial power and vote bank clout. In the case of Dileep, a Hindu actor, the action was taken immediately on the basis of an allegation. But in this case, the victim directly makes an allegation and the CPI(M) is scared,” said Joy Mathew while speaking at a function organised to express solidarity with nuns who are on a hunger-strike demanding arrest of Franco.
In the meanwhile, the police are interrogating Franco. Franco made a dramatic entry into Crime Branch office in Trippunithura on the outskirts of Kochi, on September 19. But, after the interrogation for such a long time, with a questionnaire of more than 100 questions prepared very well in advance, police still holds the cards close to their chest. They still need more interrogation hence it continues on September 20. Kerala Police had interrogated Franco in his Jalandar offices for 9 hours last month. The complainant nun had given her statement before the magistrate under Section 164 of the Criminal Procedure Code couple of months before. And, police still remains indecisive about the arrest. Men of common sense do not see any other logic behind this luke warm attitude other than political reasons , that is, the blatant minority vote bank politics of both ruling CPM-led LDF and Opposition Congress-led UDF.
Earlier, it was stated that interrogation would take place in Vaikkom, Kottayam district. The complainant’s monastery belongs to Kottayam. But, the police changed the venue of the interrogation to Trippunithura on 18th night. Media men were not privy to the information of Bishop’s arrival or venue of the interrogation. At last when the Bishop arrived his entry to the premises as well as the offices was facilitated in such a way that the media people could hardly take any good photograph. Mufti policemen gave him enough support. Police still keeps mum regarding the arrest plan. All right thinking people know that the delay in the arrest gives the culprits and his team comfortable time for tampering with the evidence.
In the meantime, more and more eminent personalities throng the dharna pandal in Kochi, Kozhikode and Thiruvananthapuram. Nuns’ protest dharna has completed 12 days. The complainant’s sister, who was on hunger strike, has been taken to the hospital due to deteriorating health. But, social activists still continue the hunger strike.
Now, people look forward to the police’s final decision – Will they arrest or won’t they.
