The grand success of Ayyappa Bhaktha Samgamam organised by Sabarimala Karma Samiti on January 20 in Thiruvananthapuram has unnerved the Communists.
Upset with the participation Mata Amritanandamayi Devi in the devotees’ meeting, certain leaders of the CPI(M) and its cadre have started viscous character assassination campaign against the saint. CPI(M) state secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan started the tirade with statements having vulgar overtones. Now, CM Pinarayi Vijayan says, Amma should not have addressed the Samgamam, whatever the reason may be. Her participation has tainted her image. Pinarayi said there are people who admire her; they did not like her having got involved in the activities of RSS-led Samgamam. RSS leads her through wrong paths. She has fallen into that trap.
While addressing the massive devotees on January 20, Amma had made it clear that the controversy surrounding Shabarimala is too unfortunate. Every temple and the deity there do have their own peculiar characterestics. The whole issue arose from the mishandling of the matter by those who do not know about the rituals and traditions iin the temples. The same programme was addressed by Sri Sri Ravi Shankar using video conference system.
Although the chief minister did not attack her personally, the cadre launched a campaign against her calling her ‘Kadappuram Sudhamani’ (Sudhamani of the sea coast). It is seen as a caste slur as she belongs to fishermen community.
This is not the first time that the Marxists have launched a vilification against Amma. When a foreign inmate of the Ashram made some unsubstantiated allegations, CPI(M)’s Kairali channel team went to New York to interview her. John Btittas, known for his anti-Hindu views, interviewed her.
