Scared of the possible electoral reverses for his party in the Pathanamthitta constituency in Kerala and victory of the BJP, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan is indulging in ‘electoral malpractices and unethical dealings’, alleged BJP candidate K Surendran.
For Vijayan, defeat of CPI(M) candidate Veena George is a personal setback as he insisted on her candidaure for the constituency agaist the wishes of the local party units. According to the BJP, Vijayan is camping in Pathanamthitta to ensure the defeat of the BJP. The Sabarimala issue has maximum resonance in this district and there is palpable public anger against the way Vijayan had dealt with the issue.
The CPI(M) is trying hard for consolidation of minority votes against the BJP to upset its plans. The BJP expressed the fears of cross-voting by the CPI(M)-led Left Democratic Front and the Congress-led United Democratic Front.
