Experts seek action against Leftist anchors and channels for devaluing the Office of President and sexist remarks against I&B minister
Anchors of certain Malayalam electronic media outlets have crossed all limits of civility and decency. In a shocking display of arrogance and audacity, anchor Jimmy James of Asianet channel, owned by BJP Rajya Sabha member Rajeev Chandrasekhar, mentioned the President of India, Ramnath Kovind, contemptuously and said, the “fellow was there”. James was moderating a panel discussion on the decision of certain award winning artists to stay away from national film awards distribution ceremony in protest against the President not giving awards to all the winners. An anchor of the channel owned by the extremist Islamic outfit Jamat-e-Islami went a step further and said: “That fellow should sit in his house.”
Comrade Venu, the lead anchor of Mathrubhumi channel, owned by JD(S) Rajya Sabha MP, MP Veerendra Kumar, called Union I&B Minister “a third rate TV serial actress” and told the BJP leader on the panel: “we know your cultural and political consciousness when you made a serial actress a minister in the Cabinet”. Going by the tone of the discussion, one gets the impression that the anchor was trying to say that Smriti Irani, a senior BJP leader and minister in the Cabinet to be a “woman of low morals”. “Venu’s statement reeks of arrogance, misogyny and sexist mentality. This means that serial actresses are good for nothing except being eye-candies. More dangerous is the sheer disregard for womanhood and patriarchal mindset. When all these were being stated, a woman, Bhagyalakshmi, was nodding her head in agreement,” said a political commentator.
Comrade Venu, the lead anchor of Mathrubhumi channel, owned by JD(S) Rajya Sabha MP, MP Veerendra Kumar, called Union I&B Minister “a third rate TV serial actress” and told the BJP leader on the panel: “we know your cultural and political consciousness when you made a mere serial actress a minister in the Cabinet”.
Venu, a serial offender, then calls Minister of State for I&B and Olympic medalist Rajyavardhan Rathod a mere “shooter” in a derisive tone. “Venu is a CPI(M) activist. He is highly biased and doesn’t follow etiquettes. The whole controversy has been triggered by CPI(M) and some artists have become mere pawns in the hands of Marxists. Despite their breast-beating over the plight of Dalits, the Marxists have an anti-Dalit mindset. By dishonouring the President, the Leftists in the media have insulted a Dalit who rose to the position of Indian President,” said a BJP leader.
Meanwhile, social media has erupted in anger at the utterances of these anchors. Experts say action can be taken against channels for devaluing the constitutional position of the President.
Commenting on the decision of certain Left-leaning cine artists not to receive award from I&B Minister Smriti Irani, film director Joy Mathew said: “I fail to understand their reluctance to receive awards from the I&B minister. These people had no qualms in receiving awards from pickle and undergarment manufacturers.”
